Город в Хабаровском крае Комсомольск-на-Амуре расположен в излучине на левом берегу Амура, в 348 км от Хабаровска, вниз по течению у северной окраины Среднеамурской низменности, где Амур прорезает смыкающиеся отроги Сихотэ-Алиньской и Буреинско-Баджальской горных систем, и где река меняет своё течение на субмеридиональное и вступает в так называемое Комсомольско-Киселёвское сужение. Справа к руслу реки круто обрываются отроги хр. Хумми (система Сихотэ-Алиня) с абсолютными отметками 350—380 м. Левая часть долины Амура обрамлена отрогами хр. Мяо-Чан. В результате длительной денудации горы разрушены до стадии мелкосопочника.
